SKINCARE: How To Look After Your Skin Post Facial

Amazing! You have just had a facial. Your skin feels like fresh air, you look radiant, everybody is looking at how 'glowy' you are... life is good! Hang on, now what? I've got this great skin, but how do I keep it? What do I do now?

I decided to do a quick post about the best way to look after your skin post facial. I know there are a few people out there who are afraid of facials, yes you heard me right... AFRAID! Why though? Why would something so relaxing, luxurious and fantastic scare you? Do you want to know the answer? It's spots! Pimples, zits, breakouts and all of that jazz.

I know there are some people who are scared of having treatments as they think they will breakout with spots. They have had a facial in the past and the next day they broke out. Well, I'm here to tell you not to worry, it's more than likely something you're doing than the facial!

Keep your hands away from your face

Number one rule after a facial! Anybody who has been to me for a treatment will know how fussy I am about this. I stand and watch as those little fingers come up to your face and my eyes widen ha ha! You know who you are... Excuse me madam, please don't touch your face! Or I just simply shout out "NO TOUCHING!". This is the worst thing to do after a treatment, I know your skin feels great and looks like silk, but please do not touch it. Your hands will probably have some kind of bacteria on them and then when you touch your skin post facial you are passing the bacteria along which will increase your chance of coming out in spots. If you must touch it, scrub your hands first and then cop a feel! No picking though! I will find you!!

Tie your hair back

Chances are if you are coming for a facial you will not have washed your hair just before you come. I don't blame you either! Realistically it will get some product in or around your hairline and so it's really just a waste of time. On saying that, your hair can hold a lot of germs. Post facial especially you want to keep your hair away from your face to keep it as clean as possible.

Keep any clothing away from your face

Similar to your hair, coats and scarves may carry bacteria and so we do not want to spread this on to your skin. If you need to wear a scarf, make sure it's not touching your face, likewise with collars from jackets.

Change your bedding

If you have not already read my post on what causes acne, I suggest you give it a look. One of the points I made was that if you're not changing your bedding regularly, you can be passing bacteria on to your face and this can then bring you out in breakouts. After a facial when your skin is so clean, try and change your bedding (or failing that, at least your pillow case!) to ensure no bacteria spreads to your skin.

No makeup!

I never recommend makeup after a facial as it will just sink straight into those clean pores. This can lead to breakouts and it is not what we want! If you must, then maybe apply a little mascara and maybe some lipstick, but your skin will look so radiant it won't need any makeup!

Just leave it

Use your facial as an excuse to be lazy. Don't do anything to your skin now until the following morning. Unless you have done something which has left your skin a bit sweaty (such as going to the gym - which I would never recommend post facial) I would like you to leave it for the rest of the day. Let all those lovely serums and creams sink in and do their business.

Be Lazy

Avoid all sports post facial. No swimming or gym. Yoga at a push, but definitely no high intensity gym workout. You just want to chill if possible, relax and let your skin repair.

Above all, enjoy your time post facial. Try and stay in that calm headspace for as long as you can. Your skin is super clean so just try and keep it that way.

Thank so much for reading
