3 Supplements All Women Need for Healthy Skin

I'm so excited for this month! With it being International Women's Day and also Mother's Day it's the best time to celebrate women. So, this month on the blog we will be focusing on a different age group each week and talking about the main skin concerns for each group too.

First, I wanted to share a fantastic blog by one of our contributors, Sharisse Dalby. Supplements are so important for the health of everybody, especially women. Why not have a read below of the three supplements all women need for healthy skin...

3 Supplements All Women Need for Healthy Skin

Your skin is an important organ, in fact – it’s your largest organ! It’s responsible for everything from preventing dehydration, to keeping harmful bacteria and germs out, to playing a critical role in the production of vitamin D3.

It’s your body’s first line of defense against sickness and disease, and it’s kind of important!

Keeping your skin healthy is imperative for a healthy body and vice versa. While a balanced diet and perfect skincare routine will definitely help you get that healthy, glowing skin you crave – a daily routine of facials and green juices just isn’t always possible (though I wish it was!).

As a nutritionist, I know that a little extra support in the nutrition department can go a long way towards healthy skin, and can be a great support to a natural skincare routine and a balanced diet.

That’s why I want to give you my three most recommended supplements to support healthy skin.

VITAMIN D is well known as the sunshine vitamin because production begins when the suns UVB rays interact with your skin producing vitamin D3, a pre-cursor to vitamin D.

Depending on where you live and the time of year, you may not be getting enough of this important vitamin. If getting enough sunshine isn’t an issue where you live, you probably also know that too much sun can be damaging to your skin.

Because vitamin D is so critical to your skin’s ability to repair and replenish cells, it can be a good vitamin to supplement in your diet to ensure you’re getting the amount you need.

Please do not exceed 600 IU in vitamin D supplementation without consulting your healthcare practitioner.

FISH OIL is popular due to its omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA, and is beneficial for almost everyone for so many reasons. However, it’s the EPA that benefits your skin the most.

Fish oil is often used to help reduce inflammation, including inflammation of the skin from sun exposure. It also helps to support your collagen production, which increases elasticity, and it helps to lock in moisture – reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and helping you maintain your youthful skin!

Please do not exceed 1,000mg of fish oil supplementation without consulting your healthcare practitioner.

VITAMIN C is an important antioxidant that you may know mostly for its ability to strengthen your immune system and fight off sickness – but it’s really great for your skin too.

These antioxidants are also important for fighting off free radicals that can affect the health of your skin, helping to strengthen your cells and prevent damage.

Vitamin C also aids in the production of collagen, providing more elasticity to your skin – again, helping to prevent wrinkles and fine lines.

Please introduce vitamin C slowly into your diet as it can encourage loose bowels.

Supporting your body through supplementation can have a beneficial impact on your entire body, including your skin, encouraging a more healthy and youthful glow.

If the thought of jumping into taking supplements scares you, take it slow. Add one at a time into your routine until you begin feeling comfortable with your new support system! As mentioned before, please be sure to check in with your healthcare practitioner before adding any new supplement into your daily routine.
