The Truth About Treating Jowls

If you’ve ever sat in front of a mirror and pulled your cheeks up with your fingertips, wondering how to make that lifted version of your face stay permanently, welcome to the club. The truth is, jowls are something most of us will experience at some point, and they’re one of the most frustrating signs of ageing to treat. But before you start searching for miracle creams or DIY lifting gadgets that promise a “non-surgical facelift,” let’s talk about what’s really going on and what actually works.

Why Jowls Happen
Jowls form when collagen, elastin and fat pads in the lower face start to shift. Gravity pulls things down, skin loses its bounce, and muscles become lazier over time. Combine that with dehydration, poor circulation, or too much sun exposure and the jawline begins to soften. It’s completely natural, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying.
What You Can Actually Do About It (At Home)
Let’s get one thing straight. No face cream is going to give you the result of a facelift. If you’re pulling your skin tight in the mirror and dreaming of that level of lift, the only thing that will do it is surgery. But, and this is an important but, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot you can do to keep the skin firm, hydrated and supported for as long as possible.
Stimulate Your Circulation
Facial massage is your secret weapon here. Using my fluorite Gua Sha or gold globe massagers daily helps to boost lymphatic drainage, improve tone and give your skin that natural lifted glow. Consistency is key and even a few minutes a day can make a visible difference in how sculpted the jawline looks.
Support Collagen from Within
Collagen decline is one of the main reasons we lose definition in the lower face. That’s why I always recommend Skinade. It works from the inside out, helping to restore collagen and elastin levels while improving skin hydration and density. Think of it as scaffolding for your face, the stronger it is, the better everything holds up.

Choose Skincare that Supports Firmness
You can’t lift a jowl with cream, but you can definitely improve the skin quality over it. My top picks are the Calecim Multi-Action Cream and Serum to firm and tighten while boosting fullness, and SkinBetter Science InterFuse LINES for targeted plumping in the deeper lines around the mouth and lower face. Both contain advanced delivery systems that reach where they need to without disrupting the barrier.
Hydrate and Strengthen the Barrier
Dehydrated skin tends to look saggier because it loses its bounce. Forlle’d Refining Lotion is brilliant for deep hydration and strengthening the skin’s natural structure. When the barrier is healthy, the skin looks firmer, fresher and more youthful.
Keep the SPF Consistent
Sun exposure is one of the biggest causes of collagen breakdown, so protecting your skin every single day is essential. I love the Nimue SPF 40 for daily use or the Environmental Shield SPF 50 if you’re outside more often. Both protect against UVA, UVB and the Environmental Shield will even protect against environmental pollution, blue light and IR and that accelerates sagging.
We have to remember there’s no cream or tool on the planet that can reverse gravity entirely, but with the right skincare, supplements and a good massage routine, you can absolutely delay and soften the appearance of jowls. It’s about maintenance, not miracles and in my experience, prevention is absolutely better than cure!
