As the days grow shorter and the nights darker, I’ve noticed that a lot of my clients – and myself included – have been feeling a bit “meh.” November can be a challenging month, as we transition into winter without the festive glow of December. But don’t worry, there are plenty of things we can do to lift our spirits, nourish our bodies, and give our skin a little extra love. Here are some of my top tips to help you beat the November blues.
1. Get Your Vitamin D Boost with Skinade Derma Defense A & D
In the UK, winter often means we don’t get enough sun, and low levels of Vitamin D can take a toll on both our mood and skin health. That’s where Skinade’s Derma Defense A & D Boost comes in. This liquid supplement is designed to support your skin from within by providing high absorption levels of vitamins A and D, two key nutrients that are vital at this time of year.
Vitamin A, or Retinol, is fantastic for stimulating cell renewal, keeping skin looking fresh, plump, and hydrated. It’s also essential for elasticity, and a lack of it can lead to dryness and pigmentation issues. Meanwhile, Vitamin D – known as the "sunshine vitamin" – is crucial for overall skin health and repair. Together, these vitamins can help hydrate your skin, promote an even tone, and improve its resilience. If you’re looking for a way to support your skin while lifting your spirits, Derma Defense A & D Boost could be your secret weapon.
2. Look After Your Gut Health with Probiotics
We often overlook how much of an impact gut health can have on our overall mood. Around 80% or more of our serotonin – the “happy hormone” – is produced in the gut, which means a healthy digestive system can really help with maintaining a positive mood. If you've been on antibiotics recently or if stress has been taking a toll, it might be worth adding a probiotic supplement to your daily routine.
I personally love Advanced Nutrition Programme’s Skin Youth Biome. This supplement contains 5 billion live cultures and four scientifically studied strains, plus Vitamin C to support gut health, immunity, and a more youthful-looking complexion. It’s brilliant if you're looking to boost your skin while balancing your gut.
Alternatively, for those struggling with acne or problematic skin, Skin Clear Biome is a fantastic choice. It’s formulated to nurture the gut-skin connection, helping to balance the skin’s natural barrier and reduce imperfections. This one is perfect if you’re dealing with stress-induced skin issues or have had antibiotics, which can throw your microbiome out of whack.
And if you’re into powder supplements, The Beauty Chef's GLOW Inner Beauty Powder is an excellent daily option. This nutrient-rich powder is packed with 18 Certified Organic wholefoods, probiotics, and postbiotics to support both gut and skin health. With a blend of bio-fermented maqui berries, queen garnet plum, and pomegranate fruit peel extract, it’s ideal for radiant skin and overall wellbeing.
3. Get Moving: The Power of a Walk
Never underestimate the power of a good walk. When the weather permits, I love a brisk walk outside, even 20 minutes can make a huge difference to my mood. Physical activity boosts endorphins – the body's natural “happy chemicals” – which help to fight off feelings of low energy and moodiness. Not to mention, getting out in nature has a calming effect on the mind.
If you’re able to, make it a social activity. Going for a walk with a friend or loved one adds the benefit of companionship, and catching up with someone can do wonders for your mental health. Plus who doesn't love a good catchup? We're always on our phones so much, I love being on a walk and having my phone away.
4. Nourish Yourself with Quality Time & Positive Connections
It’s easy to feel isolated during the darker months, but connecting with others is incredibly important. Set aside time each week to meet up with friends, family, or even colleagues for a coffee or dinner. When you’re feeling low, it can be tempting to retreat, but being around others can help to lighten your mood and give you a fresh perspective. Don't ever be afraid to reach out, it's so important to get things out.
5. Pamper Your Skin
With Winter’s dry air, our skin can often feel lacklustre, so taking the time to treat your skin can be both uplifting and beneficial. Incorporating hydrating masks or pampering treatments into your skincare routine is a wonderful way to care for yourself and boost your mood. I highly recommend trying a sheet mask for an instant pick-me-up – they’re easy to use and deliver powerful results.
For example, Meder's Hydra-Fill Beauty Mask is an absolute lifesaver, especially if your skin feels parched and stressed. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid and algae extracts to deeply hydrate and plump the skin, erasing signs of fatigue and leaving you with a radiant glow. It’s no wonder this is one of my best-sellers!
Another great option is Meder’s RED-APAX Beauty Mask, perfect for sensitive or irritated skin that needs a bit of calming. With ingredients like chamomile and centella asiatica, it soothes redness and discomfort, making it ideal for days when your skin feels stressed.
Or, if you’re after a bit of lift, firmness and some real luxury with a sheet mask, try Forlle'd Lift Face Mask. This mask offers instant firming and hydration, and it’s packed with bioactive components to target signs of ageing. It’s wonderful for those moments when your skin needs a little “oomph” before a big day.
6. Give Yourself Permission to Slow Down
Finally, remember that it’s okay to slow down. November can feel like a rush with Christmas approaching, but give yourself permission to unwind and rest. Take a hot bath, light a candle, and let yourself relax. Taking this time for yourself, even if it’s just 10 minutes, can work wonders for both your mood and your skin.
By looking after your skin, nourishing your gut, and connecting with others, you’ll find that the dull November days don’t feel quite as bleak. A little self-care goes a long way – so treat yourself to some of these mood-boosting tips :o)
Thank you so much for reading, I hope it has helped a little.
