Does It Matter What You Cleanse With?

I'm sure we all know by now that cleansing your face is a crucial step in any skincare routine, but does it really matter what you use? Well yes, yes it does. Many cleansers on the market contain harsh ingredients like soaps or are alkaline-based, which can disrupt the skin's natural pH balance and compromise its protective barrier. This imbalance can lead to a host of issues, including dryness, oily T-zones, breakouts, redness, sensitivity, and dehydration.

When you use the wrong cleanser, you're essentially stripping away the skin's natural oils and disrupting its delicate balance. This can cause irritation and inflammation, making existing skin concerns worse and potentially triggering new ones.

On the other hand, using a cleanser that is pH-balanced and gentle on the skin can help maintain the skin's natural barrier function. A pH-balanced cleanser ensures that the skin's acid mantle, which acts as a protective barrier against bacteria and environmental stressors, remains intact. This helps keep the skin healthy, hydrated, and resilient.

Additionally, using the correct cleanser allows other skincare products to work more effectively. When the skin's barrier is intact and healthy, it can better absorb the active ingredients in serums, moisturisers, and treatments, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin and deliver better results.

So, when it comes to cleansing your face, it's essential to choose a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser that suits your skin type and addresses your specific concerns. By doing so, you can ensure that your skin remains healthy, balanced, and radiant.

Let's look into some of my favourite ones...

Hands down, this is one of my best selling products and cleansers. I love my Cleansing Beauty Balm to remove all traces of makeup without stripping the skin. It's suitable for all skin types (including oily skin if you use a water based cleanser afterwards such as the Cleansing Beauty Cream or Nimue Cleansing Gel).

I make it completely by hand and it smells just like a spa. Essential oils of lavender, cedarwood, ginger and rosemary (to name only a few) work in synergy to help cleanse the skin effectively and also heal and repair without stripping the skin at all.

THE NIMUE CLEANSING GEL

My second best selling cleanser. The Nimue Cleansing Gel contains AHA's to gently exfoliate the skin and lift away dead skin cells. It works perfectly as part of your Nimue skincare regimen to allow your Nimue products (or any actives for that matter) to penetrate better. (Please contact me here if you wish to purchase the Nimue Cleansing Gel)

This is just pure luxury when it comes to cleansers. I love to use this as my second cleanse or morning cleanser sometimes when my skin is feeling a little dehydrated as it brings it back to life. It's incredibly hydrating as it contains the Hyalogy molecule and it feels almost like fluff on the skin - beautiful!

I hope you have found this post useful, I have a plethora of cleansers available on my site so please feel free to contact me if you wish to have any more information.

Thank you so much for reading,
