Treating Menopausal Symptoms Using Aromatherapy

As time goes on, I think a lot of us are more open to more natural methods when it comes to treating the body. With menopause in particular, as it's so different for each woman, sometimes it can be quite nice to tailor your treatment yourself depending on how you're feeling.

There are so many chemicals around us on a daily basis, to have to take even more to treat symptoms can be a bit annoying. Why not try some of these oils to help treat headaches, dry skin, mood swings and insomnia... you know, before popping a pill!


LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

Can help to balance hormones, treat headaches and aid with insomnia.

Uses: Oil burner, bath blend, body oil, inhalation, pulse point blend



GERANIUM ESSENTIAL OIL

Again great to help balance hormones, level mood swings and also great to help with dry skin

Uses: Oil burner, bath blend, body oil, face oil


GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL

Very uplifting oil. Great to burn in the morning if you have not slept very well or are feeling a bit tired during the day.

Can also help with an agitated mind and mood swings

Uses: Oil burner, pulse point blend


ROSEHIP OIL

A great multi-use oil. Can help treat dry skin and also acne breakouts too!

Very light and dry oil which can be absorbed easily. Can be applied directly to skin as a face oil or added to another blend as part of a body oil. Rosehip (although wonderful) can have quite a strong scent, so do check you don't mind it before applying all over your body.

Uses: Face oil, body oil


SWEET ALMOND AND COCONUT OIL

These are both very moisturising oils and are great to use in body oil blends as they do not have too much scent to them. I would recommend using these oils on the body direct or blending them with other ingredients to create a body or pulse point blend. I do not recommend using these oils on the face as they might be a bit too rich.

Uses: Body Oil, pulse point blend



HOW TO USE

Oil burner - add 3-5 drops to the well of an oil burner and fill with water.

Bath Blend - Add 5-10 drops to a cup of milk and add to a running bath (the milk stops the oils from floating to the surface)

Body Oil Blend - Add 8 drops of essential to 100ml carrier oil such as sweet almond oil or coconut oil (or even a blend of the two!)

Face Oil Blend - Add no more than 2 drops of essential oils to 10ml of carrier oil (such as rosehip oil)

Pulse Point Blend - Combine 5 drops of essential oil to 10ml of carrier oil (such as coconut or sweet almond oil). Ideally use a 10ml dropper bottle and apply 1-2 drops to your pulse points a few times throughout the day (wrists, behind kne


es and ears). Do not apply to the face.
