Top Tips To Look After Your Skin While On A Plane

Well Summer is here and so are the Summer holidays. Travelling (although wonderful) can play a huge havoc to our skin. The stress of plane travel is enough in itself sometimes, but with the air con on planes and just the general 'not so hygienic environment' is not always great for our skin.

So what are some ways we can have it looking super glossy and holiday ready by the time we land...? Here are my top tips...

AVOID THE MAKEUP

I know we can be tempted to wear a full face of makeup on a plane, but in reality it can cause blocked pores and dry out the skin.

If you're concerned and can't bear to be without it, then why not choose a tinted SPF as your base and then just some mascara and lip gloss. I love the Nimue tinted SPF 40 and also the SkinBetter Science Tone Smart Mineral sunscreen SPF 50. (just contact me here to purchase). You could always apply your makeup just before you land if you feel like you want to have makeup on when you arrive.

USE FACIAL MISTS

The air on a plane can be such a drying environment, why not use a face mist whilst you're travelling to keep the skin hydrated and plump. I love the Nimue Vitamin C Moisture Mist for this. It smells incredible and is also packed with antioxidants to protect your skin whilst you're in the air. (just contact me here to purchase)

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF YOUR FACE

Travelling can be boring sometimes (especially long-haul trips) and we can be tempted to start touching or rubbing our face when we're tired. Unfortunately those airplane seats and tray tables are not always the cleanest. If we are touching them and then touching our face we can easily pass bacteria to our skin. So, if you can, keep your hands clean and away from your face.

STAY HYDRATED AND AVOID SALTY FOODS

Eating and drinking on a plane can be a great way to pass the time. If you can make some better choices though, your skin and body will thank you. Sipping on water throughout your flight will keep your body hydrated. Avoid caffeinated and fizzy drinks plus alcohol ideally and stick to water (I know - I can see you rolling your eyes at me!).

If you choose to eat, try and avoid the salty food options if you can, but I totally understand sometimes we just don't have a choice.

REST WHEN YOU CAN

If you're taking a night flight, try and get as much sleep as you can. I love to take my silk eye mask with me on the plane and also my Calm Botanical Essence as well to help me drift off to sleep. I love to play a super chilled playlist and do my best to get at least an hour or too. I always feel so much better afterwards. If I'm really desperate I will take a herbal sleeping tablet just to help me along, but I tend to only do this if I'm doing a long-haul, night flight otherwise I can end up groggy.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A FACIAL

Take some mini travel size products in your hand luggage and if you've been on the flight for a few hours, maybe just do a quick cleanse and apply a face mask. Now I know we're not all comfortable sitting with a clay or sheet mask on, but Nimue do a wonderful Anti-Ageing Overnight Mask which can be applied to the skin and left on like a moisturiser (just contact me here to purchase). It's also clear too so nobody will know and you won't scare any other passengers.
