RECIPE: The Emmaline's Super Skin Smoothie (The 'ESS' Smoothie)

For so long I have been trying to create the perfect smoothie recipe for me to have regularly. Most days at some point I make one and they usually taste great but there's always something. It either doesn't fill me up for long enough (most common one!) or tastes amazing because it's full of fruit - which is not great for us. I love a good green smoothie - for me, the greener the better too. I know though that they can be a bit of an acquired taste and so I wanted to create one that filled me up for a few hours, wasn't loaded with sugar and had all the correct ingredients to give me enough protein, fat, fibre and greens. It's taken a few attempts, but I think I've finally got it! So, here it is... The 'ESS Smoothie'!

What you need (all ingredients I highly recommend to be organic where possible):

  • 1-1.5 cups of filtered water

  • 1 stick of celery

  • thumb nail size knob of ginger

  • 1/2 lemon peeled

  • 1/3 cucumber

  • 1 pear cored

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • large handful of greens (spinach, kale, chard etc)

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (only use if your are drinking this straight away, otherwise they can turn your smoothie into something resembling blancmange!)

  • 2 tbsp mixed seeds

  • 1 portion of superfood such as bee pollen, goji berries, maca, baobab etc

  • a supplement portion such as Skinade (use the travel sachets if using Skinade) - only add these if you are not taking extra supplements afterwards

  • 1 serving of probiotic powder

Method:

In a high speed blended (such as a Vitamix) blitz all the ingredients together.

Maybe start with the softest ingredients first if your blender isn't too powerful and make sure they are all chopped up small.

Ideally drink as soon as possible, but sometimes I drink half in the morning and then have the other half in the afternoon.

I like to store it in the fridge, in a Kilner jar, with the lid on tight

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I try and have one of these around 3 times per week.

Thanks so much for reading,

Big love,
