RECIPE: Pitta Toasts With A Vitamin C Boost

Now and again we all like a god, crunchy snack. However, if we fancy something like tortilla chips or crisps they tend to be loaded with fat and artificial flavours. These pitta chips are a great snack by yourself or to share. the addition of fresh garlic (instead of all the artificial flavour you get in a packet of crisps) has many health benefits too.

Garlic can help kill off any harmful bacteria in the body, purify the blood and strengthen the immune system (due to it's vitamin C content). It also has a high sulphur content which is essential for the structure of the skin (supporting the collagen).

Ingredients:

  • 2 Wholewheat pittas sliced into triangles

  • 3 tbsp Olive oil

  • 1/2 clove garlic grated

  • 1/4 tsp dried mixed herbs

Method:

  • Pre-heat your grill to med-high heat

  • In a small bowl mix herbs, garlic and oil in a small bowl and brush over the pitta triangles

  • put under the grill for around 5-7 minutes or until golden brown - make sure you watch these little beauties, they can burn quite quickly!

  • Serve with some low GI hummus and dips
